Pen Tablet Form-Factor

The Stylistic 1200's handheld form-factor and light weight make it ideal for "on-the-spot" decision support applications. It delivers the same type of computing power and flexibility as a laptop, but in a form-factor suitable for use while walking or standing. The Stylistic 1200 also offers greater power, flexibility and standards support than any type of PDA, enabling it to fit seamlessly into enterprise infrastructures.

Case Design

The Stylistic 1200's case is designed to be hand-held by either right-handed or left-handed users. The edges of the case are rounded; there is sufficient margin around the display to provide a comfortable grip area; and the plastic (carbon-fiber ABS) is textured to make it easier to hold the system. When individual cables (such as keyboard and monitor) are attached to the Stylistic 1200, they are easy to manage because all the ports are on one end of the system. All the doors on the Stylistic 1200 are thoughtfully designed — for example, the spring-loaded PC Card shutter doors can be left open (for frequent access to a modem card), or closed (when access is expected to be infrequent), at the user's choice.

Size and Weight

The Stylistic 1200 is designed with hand-held use in mind. The size and weight of the unit are optimized to put maximum capacity in the smallest and lightest package possible. The dimensions of the unit are 11.1 x 7.4 x 1.6 inches (283 x 188 x 41 mm); the unit weighs approximately 3.9 lbs. (1.8 Kg) in a standard configuration.

Hot Pads and Status Display

Pen-sensitive hot pads on the Stylistic 1200 enable the user to adjust common settings with a touch of the pen. The use of hot pads eliminates any mechanical controls on the unit, resulting in increased reliability. The Stylistic 1200's hot pads include display contrast and brightness, speaker on/off and volume, monitor settings, reverse video and a programmable hot pad. A convenient LCD status display indicates power status, DC input, battery charge level, charging status, HDD access and PC Card slot activity.

Integrated Audio

The Stylistic 1200 enables audio applications with either its built-in microphone and speaker, or an external microphone and headphones. The benefit of integrated audio is the user's ability to record and play back voice annotations (for example, in a patient's chart). All audio circuitry is fully compatible with Sound Blaster Pro standards.

Rugged Stylus

The Stylistic 1200 features the same rugged stylus introduced with Fujitsu's industry-leading Stylistic 1000. The metal-barreled pen offers increased durability and an improved feel over plastic competitors, and its standard AAAA battery delivers an impressive 1.5-year average life span.

High-Performance Digitizer

The tablet's high-performance electromagnetic digitizer provides familiar mouse-like cursor movement, while its 133 points-per-second sample rate and 0.025 mm resolution delivers unbeatable handwriting recognition and responsiveness.

Multiple Display Options

The Stylistic 1200 is the first pen tablet to support all four of the LCD industry's display technologies.

TFT Color — New to the Stylistic 1200 is support for a rich TFT VGA color display, offering up to 262,144 colors and a wide viewing angle, making it easier to share information with co-workers or clients. In addition, the TFT display also provides high video performance, enabling clear viewing of full-motion, 30-frames-per-second video.

DSTN Color — The Stylistic 1200 also supports up to 4,096 colors on its DSTN VGA display for cost-effectiveness in less demanding color applications.

Transmissive Monochrome — The transmissive monochrome VGA display provides the sharpest possible display for indoor use when color is not required. The display supports up to 64 gray scales.

Transflective Monochrome — The Stylistic 1200's transflective VGA display uses natural light to increase effective contrast in outdoor applications, and provides a backlight for indoor applications. The display supports up to 64 gray scales.

Simultaneous External Monitor

The Stylistic 1200 supports simultaneous use of an external monitor at resolutions up to 1024 x 768 (XVGA), enabling easy desktop integration.

Zoomed Video

The Stylistic 1200 is the only pen tablet to offer Zoomed Video (ZV). By streaming video directly from a PC Card to the graphics controller and the frame buffer, ZV eliminates the need to send video and audio data through the CPU or system bus. This simple and effective method uses the well-defined PCMCIA mechanical standard to bring full-motion video (at 30 frames per second) into the portable environment.

Lithium Ion Battery

An advanced lithium ion battery delivers 3900 mAhr, enabling the Stylistic 1200 to offer up to 5 hours of continuous use (application and display dependent) and up to 10 days of suspended operation. One of the key benefits of lithium ion is the lack of any memory effect — the user never has to worry about fully discharging the battery before recharging.

Advanced Power Management

The Stylistic 1200 employs a multi-level approach to power management. The key building blocks include the excellent processor power management capability provided by Intel's state-of-the-art 430TX chipset, the complete implementation of APM 1.2 in the Stylistic 1200's BIOS, the easy-to-use Windows® utility which allows the user to control the power management features, and the variety of libraries provided to VARs and systems integrators which allow custom applications to control the power management features. The result is a customizable system that offers both blazing performance and long battery life.

Internal Bridge Battery

An integrated, internal bridge battery allows warm-swapping of the main battery without rebooting the system or losing data in memory.

120 MHz Pentium CPU

The Stylistic 1200 features a 120 MHz Intel Pentium processor with a 256 KB Level 2 cache memory for extremely high performance, enabling it to keep pace with even the most demanding enterprise applications.

Expandable Memory

The Stylistic 1200 features 16 MB of high-performance EDO RAM memory. Maximum memory capacity is 80 MB, further enabling the Stylistic 1200 to meet the demands of Windows® 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT.

Gigabyte Capacity Hard Disk

The Stylistic 1200 uses an internal 2.5" hard disk with a 2.1 GB capacity. This unprecedented storage capacity makes it possible for the Stylistic 1200 to keep pace with the growing size of enterprise applications, such as remote database software. An optional 4.0 GB hard drive is available to meet even more demanding requirements.

Shock-Mounted Hard Disk

The hard disk in the Stylistic 1200 is shock-mounted, using Fujitsu-developed technology. The shock mounts extend the shock and vibration resistance of the 2.5" hard disk well beyond that of a PCMCIA hard disk. Since the hard disk is the most sensitive component in the entire system, this significantly increases the overall ruggedness and reliability of the Stylistic 1200.

Connectivity Benefits

Simple Expansion

The Stylistic 1200 features two stacked Type-II PC Card 3.0 (CardBus) slots (also supporting one Type-III PC Card) for the easy addition of modems, radios, peripherals, etc.

Radio-Ready™

The Stylistic 1200 has been designed to provide an optimum environment for the use of PC Card WAN radios. This "Radio-Ready" capability both ensures that the customer's chosen radio will not interfere with the operation of the computer in any way, and that the computer will not interfere with the radio (thus increasing radio range by allowing reception of weaker signals).

IrDA Port

The Stylistic 1200's integrated IrDA port enables point-and-shoot printing and connectivity with other IrDA devices at an impressive 4 Mbps speed.

Universal Connectivity

The Stylistic 1200 includes most methods of connectivity available, providing outstanding flexibility in real-world applications. The Stylistic 1200 is capable of being connected to anything and everything likely to be used with a portable computer. The connectivity includes PCMCIA, IrDA, two full RS-232 serial ports, a monitor port, a parallel port, a Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio system (incorporating an internal microphone and speaker, two microphone/headphone jacks, and two line-in/line-out jacks), a keyboard port, a mouse port, two USB ports, a floppy port and a replicator port.

Port Replicator

The Stylistic 1200's port replicator allows a wide variety of desktop peripherals to be connected to the unit in seconds. Similar in concept to a docking station, the port replicator for the Stylistic 1200 enables single-motion, snap-on connectivity for all of the ports listed above.

System Software Benefits

Windows NT Support

The Stylistic 1200 is the first commercially available pen tablet to run Microsoft's Windows NT Workstation 4.0 operating system, marking Windows NT's farthest penetration into the remote workplace. Windows NT on the Stylistic 1200 allows companies to standardize throughout the enterprise on 32-bit applications; offers superior stability, security and administration capabilities; fully enables the pen (including handwriting recognition); and includes power management support and enhanced PC Card compatibility.

Operating Systems

The Stylistic 1200 provides four different operating systems to meet nearly any requirement. These include Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Windows 98, Windows 95, and MS-DOS 6.2 with Windows for Workgroups 3.11. The ability to select from these four OSs provides companies with a high degree of flexibility in both matching enterprise OS standards, and in upgrading to the next level as the standards change.

Handwriting Recognizer

The Stylistic 1200 includes both the Microsoft Alphanumeric Handwriting System (MARS) and the Handwriter^<FONT="-2"® Recognizer System (HRS) from Communication Intelligence Corporation. Either recognizer can also easily be replaced with any of a variety of other handwriting recognizers — including cursive (script) recognizers — available from other companies. This provides the VAR or systems integrator with a high degree of flexibility in configuring custom applications.

The Stylistic 1200 offers a broad selection of options and accessories. These add-ons significantly increase the flexibility of the Stylistic 1200, allowing it to meet a wider range of application requirements.

Warranties

The Stylistic 1200, as with all Fujitsu pen tablets, comes with a 3-year limited warranty. All displays also come with an optional display damage service plan that provides up to two screen replacements per year, regardless of the cause of failure. These warranties significantly reduce the total cost of ownership.
