VidModem® Twisted-Pair Wire Technology
This technology, for the first time, distributes two-way television-quality video, FM-quality stereo audio, and data to the desktop, meeting room, or classroom over the twisted-pair telephone wires (CAT 3 or better) already available in buildings and on the campus today. The VidModem®
uses the actual twisted pair wiring used by the telephone - not the wiring associated with the local area network (LAN).
VidModem® enables the delivery of three key video services - multipoint videoconferencing, video distribution, and access and retrieval of stored video. Users can simultaneously conduct:
- Two-way, multipoint, television-quality videoconferencing
- Video broadcasts to multiple locations
- Access and retrieval of stored video information (video on-demand)
Compatibility
VidModem® is an enterprise-wide solution capable of interfacing with Wide Area Network (WAN) connections including ATM and ISDN. VidModem® is compatible with any digital, analog, or ISDN PBX, Centrex or Key telephone system, and interoperates with existing H.320 compliant videoconferencing system.
Connectivity
The VidPhone® System runs on PCI-bus Windows 95 and Windows NT workstations.
Distance - The VidModem® Can Be Installed On:
Category 3 wiring for distance of 1,000 feet
Category 5 wiring for distance of 2,000 feet
VidModem® Operates:
Over the existing telephone system wiring already in the building or campus
Without adding data to the LAN or interfering with normal telephone operation
Using virtually no PC processing power
VidPhone System
- The VidPhone® System allows people to communicate visually with uncompressed, full-motion video over existing telephone wiring.
- The VidPhone® System integrates in one solution delivery of multipoint videoconferencing, broadcast of satellite or cable TV, and access and retrieval of stored video to desktops and meeting rooms.
VidPhone Switch
- The VidPhone® Switch50 is the multifunction, broadband switch that delivers uncompromising television quality, one and two-way, full-motion video, stereo audio, and data to desktops or meeting rooms.
- The VidPhone® Switch50 is the central hub of the system.
VidPhone Station
- VidPhone® Stations are the user or remote endpoints of the VidPhone® System. Telestar offers a number of VidPhone Stations for desktop, meeting room, observation, and display applications.
Adaptor Cards
- Allow the addition of users and other video sources
Multi-Point Conferencing
- The Conference Bridge4® card allows any VidPhone® Station user to independently initiate and control a multipoint videoconference. It connects any combination of VidPhone® Station, video source, or external CODEC into a videoconference.
WAN Connectivity
- This allows VidPhone® Station users to call other VidPhone® Switches or other H.320 compliant videoconferencing systems over the wide area network.
